Set up Genesis eNews with Mailchimp

All 17th Avenue themes use Genesis eNews Extended for the subscription areas within the theme. It's a robust plugin, easy to use and set up, and works great..

Genesis eNews can be set up with most mailing list services (Mailchimp, Aweber, Constant Contact, and many others). Mailchimp is one of the most popular email marketing services and for good reason — it's free for up to 2,000 subscribers, simple to configure, and offers lots of great features. This tutorial will walk you through how to set up Genesis eNews with Mailchimp, but the instructions will be fairly similar if you're using a different mailing service.

How to set up Genesis enews with Mailchimp

1. In your Wordpress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New. Search Genesis eNews Extended and install and activate it.

2. Visit your Mailchimp dashboard. If you haven't created a subscriber list yet, do that now following these instructions.

3. In your Mailchimp dashboard, go to Lists > {Name of the list you want to use} > Signup Forms > Embedded Forms > Unstyled. Find this code box:

4. You will only need to grab a small portion of this code, but the code box doesn’t allow you to only select a part of it. Copy the entire code and paste it into a text editor. In a pinch, you can paste it into a WordPress Cutsom HTML widget temporarily.

5. Once you have pasted the code somewhere, copy the link following “action.”

6. Go to Appearance > Widgets. Drag the Genesis eNews Extended widget into the widget area of your choice or that is required by your theme.

7. Add the link you copied in step 5 to the "Form Action" field in the settings for the Genesis eNews widget.

8. In the email field, type EMAIL. In the first name field, type FNAME. If you would like to collect last names, type LNAME in the last name field. These three fields must be uppercase.

9. Configure the input placeholders and subscription button text how you’d like. Our demos are usually set at:

10. Save the widget, and then you’re done!
