Harper (Troubleshooting) – Post excerpt overlay not displaying on homepage

On the Harper homepage, your blog posts should appear like this in Front Page 3, 5, 7, and 9:

If your posts are instead displaying like this... this tutorial is for you.

How to fix incorrect display of Genesis Featured Posts widgets on Harper homepage

  1. Go to Appearance > Install Plugins.
  2. Make sure all the recommended plugins are installed AND activated. You're specifically looking for the Custom Featured Post Widget plugin — this is a modified version of the Genesis Featured Posts widget that allows the widget to display with the post title/excerpt overlay.

Most of the time, activating the Custom Featured Post Widget plugin will resolve the display of the posts on your homepage.

If the Custom Featured Post Widget plugin is already active on your site and the posts are still displaying incorrectly (this will only occur if you had a different 17th Avenue theme active in the past), here's what to do:

  1. Go to Plugins > All Plugins. Deactivate and then DELETE the "Custom Featured Posts Widget" plugin.
  2. Next, go to Appearance > Install Plugins and reinstall the Custom Featured Posts Widget plugin. Make sure the plugin is activated, clear your cache, and then check your site. You should then see the correct display of the posts on your homepage.
