Clover - Import Demo

Before You Begin

Before importing the demo, make sure that all of the Clover Recommended Plugins are installed AND active on your website.

If you plan to use WooCommerce, we recommend installing that prior to importing the demo content, that way the WooCommerce demo content can be loaded onto your site.

Please note that only one demo should be imported on your site at a time. Importing both demos will cause duplicate widgets on your homepage. If you'd like to switch to the other demo, see the bottom of this tutorial for instructions.

Importing the Demo: New Sites

Follow these instructions if your site is "new" and doesn't have existing content. These steps will load all of the demo content on your site, including widgets, posts, pages, menus, customizer settings, etc.

1. Go to your WordPress dashboard > Appearance > Clover Theme Setup.

2. Scroll to the bottom of the page. There are two demo options that you can import: Website Homepage and Blog Homepage.

Note: The themes are the same regardless of which homepage option you import. The only difference between the two versions is the layout of the homepage.

3. Hover your cursor over whichever demo you'd like to import, and click Import Demo.

4. On the next page, you'll be shown a couple of optional plugins that can be installed along with the import. Place a checkmark by any optional plugins you would like to install.

5. Click Continue & Import. Do not refresh the page or go back.

It can take anywhere from 1 minutes to 5+ minutes for the demo to import, so be patient! The demos import in a little over a minute on SiteGround, and over 5 minutes on Bluehost. The quality of your host can make a big difference.

Importing the Demo: Existing Sites

Follow these instructions if your site is established and has existing content, or if you do not want to import the demo posts/pages/menus/etc for one reason or another.

1. Go to your WordPress dashboard > Appearance > Clover Theme Setup.

2. Scroll down and click Switch to Manual Import.

To import the Website Homepage: Under Import Widgets, click Select File. Go your Clover theme file > Demo > Website Homepage. Select the website-widgets.wie file. Click Continue & Import.

To import the Blog Homepage:  Under Import Widgets, click Select File. Go your Clover theme file > Demo > Blog Homepage. Select the blog-widgets.wie file.

Under Import Customizer, click Select File. Go your Clover theme file > Demo > Blog Homepage. Select the blog-customizer.dat file. Click Continue & Import.

Switching between demos

If at any point you need to switch your site to a different homepage version, here's what to do:

  1. Go to Appearance > Widgets.
  2. Remove all widgets from all widget areas.
  3. Follow the steps above for EXISTING SITES (manual import).
  4. If switching from the Website Homepage to the Blog Homepage, you'll import the Blog widgets and the Blog customizer.
  5. If switching from the Blog Homepage to the Website Homepage, you'll import only the Website widgets.
  6. You can then fill in your content, images, etc at Appearance > Widgets. Refer to the theme documentation for more information.
