You'll be able to access your Portfolio page on your site at https://yourwebsite.com/portfolio

- Click here to download the Custom Portfolio plugin (do not unzip).
- Go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
- Select the Custom_Portfolio_17thAvenue.zip file and upload it. Activate the plugin.
Portfolio Initial Setup
- For the Portfolio to work correctly, you’ll need to first reset your Permalinks.
- Go to your WordPress dashboard > Settings > Permalinks.
- Do not change your Permalink structure – just simply click the “Save Changes” button at the bottom of the page. That will reset your Permalinks.
How the Portfolio Works
Click here to view an example of a Portfolio page.
- The Portfolio is comprised of several Portfolio "entries." Each entry has a featured image that displays on the main portfolio page. The main portfolio page will display your Portfolio entries in three columns by default, but this can be customized!
- When you click on one of the images on the Portfolio page, you are taken to a page where more images/content/etc can be displayed. This page is a Portfolio entry.
- You can also categorize your Portfolio entries into Portfolio categories. Each category has its own Portfolio archive page, so you could potentially create an unlimited number of Portfolio pages.
Creating Portfolio Entries
Click here to view an example of a Portfolio entry.
- To add a new Portfolio entry, go to Portfolio > Add New.
- In the right sidebar, find the Featured Image section and select a featured image. This is the image that will display on your main Portfolio page for this Portfolio entry.
- In the large content area, you can add images, text, an image gallery – whatever you’d like. This is what will display after the portfolio entry featured image is clicked on.
Customize the appearance of the Portfolio
To customize the Portfolio, go to Appearance > Customize > Posts/Pages Layout. Under Custom Post Types, you have two sections available:
- Portfolio Layout – This section contains settings for the individual Portfolio entries. You can change settings such as the layout of the Portfolio entry, style of the Portfolio entry title, alignment of the Portfolio entry title, and more.
- Portfolio Archive Layout – This section contains settings for the overall Portfolio page and Portfolio categories. You can change settings such as the number of columns on the Portfolio page, what content is displayed below the featured image, and more.
Portfolio Categories
In some cases, you may want to sort your Portfolio entries into multiple pages instead of having everything on just one page. For example, if you’re a photographer, you may want to have four separate Portfolio pages: families, portraits, newborns, and weddings. To achieve this, you can use Portfolio categories.
To add a new Portfolio category, go to Portfolio > Portfolio Categories and create a new category. A list of your active categories can be seen on the right. Once you’ve added all the categories you want, you can categorize your Portfolio entries under the different categories you set up.
