Vivienne [Genesis] - Homepage Setup
Before You Begin
You'll need to configure two settings on your site before you start setting up your homepage.
- Go to Wordpress > Settings > Reading and make sure "Your Latest Posts" is selected under Front Page Displays.
- Go to Genesis > Theme Settings. Under Content Archives, check the "Display Featured Image" box. Then, select the "blog-large" image size. Save changes.
Homepage Overview
The Vivienne homepage has six widget areas:
- Front Page 1
- Front Page 2
- Front Page 3
- Front Page 4
- Front Page 5
- Front Page 6
Below we'll go over what is inside each of these widget areas. If you imported your widgets, all of the homepage widgets will already be set up for you, so all you'll need to do is fill in your own details! Easy peasy.
The homepage widget areas in this theme are super flexible. You can move widgets to different areas, add new widgets, remove ones you don't need, etc. The possibilities are endless!
How to place widgets
In your Wordpress dashboard, go to Appearance > Widgets. You can drag widgets from the left side of the page into any of the widget areas on the right side of the page.
Front Page 1
Genesis Featured Posts widget, configured as follows:
Front Page 2
The subscription widget uses Genesis eNews Extended. Click here for setup instructions.
Front Page 3
This widget area is compromised of two widgets:
If you'd like to copy/paste this, click here.
The <br/>'s at the top of this widget add line breaks. These help line up your content next to the image. If you want to use more or less text, you can add or remove <br/>'s accordingly. Or, if you want to use a horizontal image instead of a vertical image, you can remove the <br/>'s to eliminate the space.
Image used in demo is 733 x 1008.
Front Page 4
The first Custom HTML widget just serves as a title for this section, so the content area is left blank (feel free to add text to the content box if you wish).
Genesis Featured Page widget x 3. Configure as shown below and repeat for two more featured page widgets.
In the demo, the three featured page widgets link to blog categories, but you can link them anywhere (even offsite). You could do About, Services, and Contact. You could do Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Truly anything you want :)
Front Page 5
This section displays a shopping widget from ShopStyle Collective, a third-party affiliate marketing company. For instructions on setting up an account with ShopStyle and creating these kinds of widgets, click here.
Front Page 6
This widget uses Genesis Responsive Slider. Once the plugin is installed, it will appear in the list of widgets on your Widgets page, which you can drag into the Front Page 6 widget area.
NOTE: The slider is pre-configured to display as shown in the theme demo. If the slider does not display correctly (e.g. post title is missing), go to Genesis > Slider Settings and click "Reset Settings" at the top.
