Mia - Interactive world map

Before You Begin

First, make sure that the MapGeo plugin is installed and active on your website. If you imported the Mia Travel demo, you should have this plugin on your site already!

Additionally if you imported the Mia Travel demo, the map shown above is already created and customized for you. You can edit the existing map at MapGeo > All Maps > Mia World Map.

Creating a New Map

  • Create a new map: Go to MapGeo > Add New Map. Our demo map is set to "World Low."
  • Create highlighted countries: Go to Regions > Add New Region. Enter the Region code (list can be found on the right) of the region you'd like to highlight. In the Action Content field, you can optionally add a link.
  • Create round markers: Go to Round Markers > Add New Marker. You can either manually enter the latitude and longitude of your desired marker, or you can scroll up and click anywhere on the map. A box will appear with the latitude and longitude of where you clicked, and then you can enter those values into the marker. In the Action Content field, you can optionally add a link.

We suggest linking your Regions to category pages and Markers to tags or specific posts on your website! For example, you could link the Canada region to your Canada category. You could link your London marker to your London tag, or to your post about London.

Customizing the Colors

  • Change the color of the countries: Go to MapGeo > All Maps > [Select your map name] > Regions > Default values. There you can change the fill color, hover color, and empty color.
  • Change the color of the markers: Go to MapGeo > All Maps > [Select your map name] > Round Markers > Default values. There you can change the fill color and hover color.
  • Change the background color of the map: Go to MapGeo > All Maps > [Select your map name] > Visual Settings > Background Color.

Browse by Category Menu

The map is sometimes shown alongside a Browse by Category drop-down menu. When a parent item is clicked in the menu (e.g. Oceania), child items (e.g. New Zealand) expand. These child items are intended to be linked to category pages on your website.

Please note that the map and Browse by Country menu do not interact; they are independent of one another.
