Mia [Genesis] - Introduction
Welcome to the Theme Documentation center for your new Mia WordPress Theme. To get started, click the "Mia Theme" link on the left. We recommend starting at the first article and working your way down – the articles have been ordered in a specific way to make the most sense when you're setting up your theme.
Three Demo Options
Our Mia theme is a little different in that there are three distinct theme demos (Mia Travel, Mia Food, and Mia Fashion). The theme on all three demos is the same theme set up in different ways, but we'll go over more on that later. You can choose to import one of the three demos and work from there, or you can set up the theme from scratch.
Please note that only ONE demo should be imported. If you'd like to switch to a different demo in the future, that is possible, but do not import multiple demos at once.
Tip: your site doesn't have to be a Travel, Food, or Fashion blog to use the Mia theme — all the wording, images, colors, etc are fully customizable. The Mia theme can work for all kinds of sites!
Before you begin
We recommend that you update your site to the latest version of WordPress before installing your theme. Whenever updating WordPress software, plugins, or themes, be sure that your site has a backup.
For new websites
If you are starting a brand new site, there are two things we recommend doing before you begin installing your theme:
- Navigate to Appearance > Widgets in your WordPress dashboard and remove any default widgets that WordPress installed for you. When you activate your 17th Avenue theme, these widgets will often "jump" to other widget areas, which can cause confusion during theme setup. When you import the demo widgets for your theme, your widget areas will be set up as shown in the demo.
- Set your Permalinks to "Post Name" format. Link: Permalinks in WordPress
