Peony - Homepage Options

The Peony theme has several different widget options that can be added above the blog posts on the homepage. Below we'll show you how to implement the following widgets in Peony:

  • Post slider (content width)
  • Post slider (full width)
  • 3 featured pages or categories
  • 2 Featured blog posts
  • Subscription widget

Post Slider (Content Width)

  1. Install & activate the 17th Avenue Post Slider.
  2. Go to Appearance > Widgets and drag a Genesis Responsive Slider widget into the Before Content widget area.
  3. If you'd like to change the slider image size, go to Genesis > Slider Settings > Display Settings.

Post Slider (Full Width)

  1. Install & activate the 17th Avenue Post Slider plugin.
  2. Go to Appearance > Widgets and drag a Genesis Responsive Slider widget into the Before Content widget area.
  3. Go to Genesis > Slider Settings > Display Settings. Set the slider width to 1700 and slider height to 550px.
  4. Click here and copy the code. Go to Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS and paste the code. Click Publish to save.
  5. Go to Tools > Regenerate Thumbnails > click "Regenerate Thumbnails for X Featured Images Only."

3 Featured Pages / Categories

  1. Install & activate the Genesis Featured Page Advanced plugin.
  2. Go to Appearance > Widgets and drag a Genesis Featured Page Advanced widget into the Before Content widget area.
  3. Configure the widget settings as shown below:

If you want to link to a category, select the "Feature a Custom Page Link." Paste the URL of your category in the box. You could also add an external link that isn't on your website, i.e. the link to your Etsy shop.

If you want to link to a page, select the "Feature a Page" option. Select your desired page from the drop-down menu.

4. Repeat steps 2-3 for two additional widgets.

2 featured posts

  1. Go to Appearance > Widgets. Drag a Genesis Featured Posts widget into the Before Content widget area.
  2. Configure the widget settings as shown below:

Subscription widget

  1. Go to Appearance > Widgets. Drag a Genesis eNews Extended widget into the Before Content widget area.
  2. Configure the settings as shown below:

Replace YOUR MAILCHIMP FORM URL HERE with your Mailchimp Form URL. Click here for instructions on obtaining your Mailchimp Form URL.

Tip! The Genesis eNews subscription widget can also be combined (placed above or below) any of the other widgets. For example, you could have a content-width post slider and a subscription widget below it.
