Amelia [Genesis] - Homepage Setup

Blog posts, sidebar, and footer are not shown in this visual but will be present on your site. They are set up separately.

Before You Begin

We HIGHLY recommend importing the widgets for your theme. Importing the widgets will make theme setup go significantly faster, and you can skip a lot of this tutorial!

Configure Reading Settings

For the homepage to display like the demo, make sure that your reading settings are configured correctly:

  1. Go to WordPress > Settings > Reading.
  2. Under Your Homepage Displays, select "a static page."
  3. For the Homepage, select the Home page. (If you don't have a Home page, go to WordPress > Pages > Add New and create a blank page titled Home. Set the page layout to Content, Primary Sidebar).
  4. For the Posts page, select the Blog page. (If you don't have a Blog page, go to WordPress > Pages > Add New and create a blank page titled Blog)
  5. Save changes.

Featured Images

The Amelia theme displays blog posts in the slider and the blog feed. Each blog post requires a featured image in order for the post to display as shown in the demo. If you didn't import the demo content, make sure that each of your blog posts have a featured image set.

1. Homepage Post Image Slider

The Amelia slider uses the 17th Avenue Post Slider plugin. Once the plugin is installed, it will appear in the list of widgets on your Widgets page.

Drag the Genesis Responsive Slider widget into the  Front Page 1 widget area to add the slider to your homepage.

Some helpful tips/information about the slider:

  • The slider is pre-configured to display as shown in the theme demo. If the slider does not display correctly (e.g. post title is missing), go to Genesis > Slider Settings and click "Reset Settings" at the top.
  • For your images to display in the slider, you must have featured images set for your posts. Your featured image should be a landscape image at least 1650x600px.
  • By default, the slider will display your most recent posts. If you would like to individually choose which posts display in the slider, click here for instructions.

2. Featured Page Buttons

1. Go to Appearance > Widgets. Drag a “Genesis Featured Page Advanced” widget into the Front Page 2 widget area.

2. Configure the settings as shown below:

3. Repeat steps 1-2 for the two other buttons.
Tips:
  • You can link Genesis Featured Page widgets to both pages and categories. To get the URL for a category, click here for our easy guide!
  • If you imported the demo widgets and just need to switch out your featured page widget images, we have a tutorial on that here.

3. "Currently Loving" Shop widget

This section displays a shopping widget from ShopStyle Collective, a third-party affiliate marketing company. For instructions on setting up an account with ShopStyle and creating these kinds of widgets, click here.

Once you have your affiliate code from ShopStyle or RewardStyle, drag a Custom HTML widget into Front Page 3 and paste your affiliate code.

4. Subscription Widget

The "Join the List" subscription widget in the Amelia theme uses Genesis eNews Extended. To learn how to configure this plugin, click here.

Go to Appearance > Widgets. Drag the Genesis eNews Extended widget into the Front Page 4 widget area. The widget title used in the demo is “Join the List.” Configure the widget how you would like, and then save.
